Getting started
How do I record a lesson?
Open the Record tab, name the lesson, pick your coach, and tap Start recording. Put your phone somewhere it can hear both of you: a pocket works, a golf bag works. When you're done, tap stop and save. Then open the lesson from your Library and tap Transcribe, then Analyze.
Can I try it before recording a real lesson?
Yes. On the Record tab, tap “Load sample data.” That fills the Library, Round, and Progress tabs with a set of example lessons so you can see how everything works. You can remove it later from Settings, and it never affects your own lessons.
Do I have to ask my coach before recording?
Please do. It's their voice and their teaching, and asking first is both courteous and, in some places, legally required. In our experience most coaches are happy about it, because a student who remembers the lesson is a student who improves.
Should I use a wireless microphone?
You don't need one, and plenty of lessons record fine with the phone in a bag. But a range is open and windy, and your coach may be several feet away, so a wireless clip-on mic gives noticeably cleaner audio. Clip it to whoever is talking, leave the phone in your bag, and record as usual. Both Bluetooth mics and mics with a receiver that plugs into your phone work. Outdoors, look for one with a foam or fur windscreen. If you clip the mic to your coach rather than yourself, ask them first.
What runs where
Does my audio leave my phone?
No. Recording, transcription, and analysis all happen on your device. There is no server, no account, and no upload. Nothing you record is ever sent to us.
Which iPhones work?
LessonCaddie needs iOS 26.5 or later. The on-device analysis uses Apple Intelligence, which requires iPhone 15 Pro or newer with Apple Intelligence turned on in Settings. On older phones you can still record and keep lessons, but the automatic analysis won't be available.
Why is the first transcription slow?
The first time you transcribe, your phone may need to download a speech model. That's a one-time wait and it happens on your device.
Free lessons and unlocking
How much is free?
The first three lessons you analyze are free. Recording, importing, your whole Library, the Round tab, Progress, and exporting are always free, and any lesson you've already analyzed stays readable forever, whether or not you buy.
What does the unlock cost?
It's a single one-time purchase. No subscription. The current price is shown in the app and in Settings.
I already bought it but it's asking me to pay again.
Open Settings in the app and tap “Restore purchase.” That happens automatically on a new phone or after reinstalling, as long as you're signed in with the same Apple ID you bought it with.
How do I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, find LessonCaddie, and request a refund there.
Audio playback
How do I stop or rewind audio?
Every place audio plays has full controls: play and pause, a bar you can drag to move through the recording, buttons to jump back or forward fifteen seconds, a speed control, and a stop button. In a teaching moment, tapping the timecode starts the recording at that exact point and the controls appear underneath.
Can I listen faster?
Yes. Tap the speed button to cycle through 0.75×, 1×, 1.25×, 1.5×, and 2×. Most people re-listen at 1.5×.
Your data
How do I get my lessons out?
Settings → Export everything. That builds a zip file containing one document per lesson with every teaching moment, its tags, concepts and ratings, plus the transcripts, a full data file, and optionally your audio recordings. You can also share a single lesson from the share button inside that lesson.
Should I include audio in the export?
The toggle shows you how large the recordings are first. Audio makes the file much bigger, so leave it off if you're emailing the export and on if you're making a backup.
How do I delete something?
Delete individual lessons and teaching moments inside the app. Remove the sample set from Settings. Deleting the app removes all of its data from your device. Because we never receive your data, there is nothing held by us to delete.
Troubleshooting
The recording stopped early.
A phone call or another app taking over audio will end a recording, and whatever was captured up to that point is kept. Before a lesson, it's worth turning on Do Not Disturb and checking you have storage space free.
Transcription or analysis failed.
Tap Try again. The lesson and its audio are still saved, so nothing is lost. If it keeps failing, check that Apple Intelligence is enabled in your iPhone's Settings, and that the recording actually captured sound by playing it back.
The analysis missed something my coach said.
Fix the transcript first. Before analyzing, you can tap into the transcript and correct anything that was misheard, because the analysis can only be as good as the text it reads. You can also edit any teaching moment afterwards, or add your own.
The transcript is full of gaps or wrong words.
That is almost always an audio problem rather than a transcription problem. Wind across the microphone, distance between you and your coach, and a phone buried under a towel are the usual causes. Try keeping the phone nearer the top of the bag, and if it keeps happening, a wireless clip-on mic clipped to whoever is talking is the single biggest improvement you can make.
I marked a moment during the lesson but don't see it.
Flags you place during recording are used as hints for the analysis rather than becoming moments by themselves. Moments that came from a flag are marked as such in the lesson.
